The interpersonal conflicts made the creatures all the scarier when they attacked and the idea that they could all die with no resolution elevated the good, if thin, script and raised the stakes. Family dynamics were fraught with tension, a daughter feeling distant from a father she believed blamed her for her brother’s death. The first film introduced audiences to the Abbott family and their lonesome existence in a world now polluted by auditory monsters brought heightened intensity and genuine fear. To that end, A Quiet Place Part II doesn’t offer anything astonishingly new. ![]() There are long, tense moments that allow the audience to sit with the characters and their horrific circumstances, but the sequel feels comfortable capitalizing on what made the first film work instead of pushing the boundaries of its own world. More than that, they know what they're doing, too! It's an uplifting sentiment, if one that isn't entirely earned considering the contrived path it took to get there. The film takes its time building up to an action-packed finale that is laden with a sense of hope, as though confirming that yes, the kids will be alright. Regan is the one most willing to put her life on the line if it means a better future is in store and Millicent Simmonds does a phenomenal job conveying Regan’s stubbornness and determination. Rather, it expands upon his sacrifice by elevating the kids as protectors in his place. However, it’s a noble theme and one the act doesn’t take Lee’s sacrifice for granted. Related: John Krasinski Interview: A Quiet Place 2Ī Quiet Place Part II is not nuanced in its passing of the torch to Lee and Evelyn’s kids and they often make exceptionally unwise decisions like their parents before them. To date, it’s the only sound that can stop the creatures in their tracks and that, if nothing else, brings some hope. If she can find them, she can use their system to amplify the feedback that is created when she puts her hearing aid directly into a speaker. While they find refuge for a bit, Regan is determined to find the location where “Beyond the Sea” is playing over the radio on repeat, convinced that it’s a call from other survivors. ![]() They’re surprised to find Emmett (Cillian Murphy), a friend of Lee's from before the creatures arrived on Earth, and whose character is introduced in a flashback scene featuring the day of the attack, is still alive. With Krasinski’s character, Lee, killed in the final act of A Quiet Place and the Abbotts’ home flooded and littered with the alien creatures who now lie dead, Evelyn (Emily Blunt) and her children - Regan (Millicent Simmonds), Marcus (Noah Jupe), and her newborn baby - head out to find another safe place.
